With My Heart in Yambo
María Fernanda Restrepo was only 10 years old when her parents went on vacation, leaving her under the supervision of her two older brothers, Santiago and Andrés, who were 17 and 14 years old. They were to pick her up from a birthday party in the afternoon. But Santiago and Andrés never made it. After one year of uncertainty and anguish, the Restrepo family learned that on that day Santiago and Andres had been kidnapped, tortured, murdered and disappeared by the Ecuadorian police. Their bodies had been thrown into Lake Yambo—a 2-hour drive from Quito—but no remains were ever found. This documentary re-examines the Restrepo case from the inside, and it also serves as a well-deserved tribute to Don Pedro Restrepo, the tireless father who never quit searching for his sons.
